The Blessings of Simplicity

This horrific pandemic has taught has many things, among them, the blessings of simplicity. This short reflection appeared in the October 14 version of Notre Dame Magazine online.

“Dusk is beginning to creep in, turning us worshippers into silhouettes. This is the first in person Eucharist I have experienced since the advent of the pandemic in March… Like the altar stripped bare on Holy Thursday, this service is striking in its simplicity. There is no choir, only a solitary guitarist. I forget we are not supposed to sing but a few notes slip out, muffled by my mask. I experience a deep peace, as gentle as a night breeze on my face.”
